Public Safety
Service to Our Community
The City of Oak Point in 1977 established a police department which was later developed into the Oak Point Department of Public Safety (DPS). Under this concept, the Department operates Police/Fire/EMS services as one organization, allowing us to make the best use of both resources and personnel. Some of our employees carry state of Texas certifications in police, fire and EMS. The Department provides these services 24 hours a day.
The Department currently provides public safety services to approximately 24,000-30,000 people (service dependent) within the city limits and areas adjacent to the City limits which are unincorporated areas of Denton County. The contracts for these services allow our citizens to enjoy an increased level of service and protection.
Vision Statement
It is our goal and commitment that Oak Point be a community where people live and enjoy life without fear of crime or oppression.
Mission Statement
To reduce crime and the fear of crime through exceptional service to and in partnership with our community.
Core Values
Our core values - Continuous Improvement, Respect, Service to Our Community, and Integrity - are the soul of how we operate. We dedicate ourselves to these values understanding that they are the life of our organization.
Continuous Improvement
We will strive to achieve the highest level of quality in all aspects of our work, never settling for the “status quo”.
Respect
We believe in treating all people with respect and dignity. Each member shall act in a manner that ensures a feeling of importance in every member of our community and organization.
Integrity
"We must demonstrate pride in our profession and ourselves so that we act in a manner that merits the respect and trust of our community. We must demonstrate honest, ethical behavior in our interactions, never showing preference for any race, religion, or socioeconomic group and never contributing to the spread of gossip or strife.
It is my belief that we can best serve the varied needs of our community by empowering those employees who exhibit these values. To these employees, we have a duty to assist them to fulfill their responsibilities with knowledge, authority, and appropriate discretion. It is also my belief that we must continue to police ourselves as we have in the past, and if required again, rid our department of those who behave dishonestly or unethically, so that we may maintain the trust and respect of our community.
We must always protect ourselves from the temptation to lower our standards or to make exceptions, as some have suggested in the past. We must have the courage to stand up for our beliefs and do what is right. Our dedication and adherence to our core values and principles will ensure that the Oak Point Department of Public Safety will remain an efficient and professional agency."
