Applications for police officer are given to applicants who are TCLEOSE certified or currently certified as Firefighter/EMT or Firefighter Paramedics, Firefighter/EMT/Paramedic candidates meeting the standards of this department will be sent to the police academy for TCLEOSE certification.
To be eligible for hire as a Oak Point Emergency Services Officer an applicant must meet the following basic qualifications:
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- Must be a citizen of the United States of America.
- Must not have received a dishonorable or undesirable discharge from any of the armed forces of the United States.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement or moral turpitude.
- Must not have falsified the application.
- Must successfully pass all steps of the Selection Process (described below).
- Must possess a valid drivers license at the time of application, and a State of Texas Drivers license at the time of appointment.
The selection process utilizes the following procedure to select candidates for employment:
- Successful completion of the basic Peace Officer TCLEOSE certification
- Application submitted.
- Written Examination
- Physical Assessment Test
- Administrative Staff Interview
- Polygraph Examination
- Background Investigation
- Psychological Test
- Medical Examination
- Drug Screening

What are the laws pertaining to child restraints in vehicles?
All children under 6 years of age must be buckled up while
riding in any car, pickup truck or van on Texas’s roads, no matter where they
are sitting in the vehicle. Children through the age of 3 must be secured in a
federally approved child restraint seat. Children ages 4 through 5 must be
secured by either a federally-approved child restraint seat or a safety belt.
Drivers are responsible for buckling up the child. **The cost to a violator will
be $155 and 3 points on the driver’s license.
