The Oak Point Department of Public Safety was formed from the Oak Point Police Department. With the help of Len Limmer (former Director of Public Safety for DFW Air Port) in 1999, the city began training its police officers as Emergency Medical Technicians, due to geographical distance that ambulance services would travel to respond to citizens medical emergencies. The program was an overwhelming success with four lifesaving incidents by officers since its inception. In 2003, the city took the next step and began the final portion of the cross training for officers, Fire Training. Officers are scheduled to be certified as firefighters in March 2004. This will give the city a partially paid, partially volunteer Fire Department equal to departments the city has in the past and currently contracts with for Fire Protection Service, at a substantially lower benefit to cost. Due to the establishment of this program citizens should, in 2004, realize a substantial lowering of home owners insurance rates as the city is re-rated by the Insurance Commission. The Oak Point Department of Public Safety provides service and protection to our citizens 24 hours day, seven days a week. Our first concern is your safety. Whether taking in a Polo match, sailing Lake Lewisville or simply enjoying the breathtaking views of our city, we are able to respond in minutes to any emergency. |
