In Case of Emergency Dial 911

The  Oak Point Department of Public Safety, as part of, and empowered by the community,  is committed to protect the lives, property  and rights of all people, to maintain order, and to  enforce the law impartially. We will provide quality police, fire and medical services in partnership with  members of our community.  To fulfill our mission, we will strive to attain the highest degree of ethical behavior and professional conduct at all times.  The partnership between the community and the police is built on trust. It is also built on  years of  hard work.  We have worked hard to gain each other's confidence and will continue to expand that confidence  and further that cooperative effort. The citizens of  Oak Point and our Public Safety officers, must  continue to work as partners, in order to protect our children, our seniors and to build stronger neighborhoods.  The Oak Point Department of Public Safety will make every effort  to strengthen the crucial bonds of cooperation and support with our citizens that we are sworn to protect.

On behalf of the Public Safety Officers, we wish to thank those who have supported us through the years and we vow to do everything possible to strengthen the partnership between our community and  those of us who have chosen the challenge of serving.

We work best when we work together!

Emergency Services / Concept

The Oak Point Department of Public Safety began as the Oak Point Police Department.  The departments first step in 1999 was to train police officers as Emergency Medical Technicians. Time being imperative in  medical emergencies, the program has been an overwhelming success.

In 2003, the city took the next step and began Fire Services Training .  Today Oak Point Public Safety Officers are certified as firefighters, as well as Emergency Medical Technicians/Paramedics and Police Officers.  The partially paid, partially volunteer Fire Services has created a substantial benefit to citizens in emergency response times.

The Department of Public Safety has and will continue to make every effort to provide our citizens the best in public safety service and protection  24 hours day, seven days a week, three hundred and sixty five days a year.

Our first concern is your safety.   Whether taking in a Polo match, sailing Lake Lewisville or simply enjoying the breathtaking views of our city, your Department of Public Safety is ready to respond in minutes  to any emergency.

Administration

The Director of Public Safety, Michael Shackleford has been with the department since 1996.  Under his direction the department continues to follow a proactive rather than a reactive response to community needs. When the Director started in 1996, he was the only paid officer with the department.  Since he began,  the department has grown from one paid officer to ten full time personnel.

With the approval of the city councils over the last twelve years a full service department of public safety has developed, which includes emergency medical and fire as well as police services.

Programs established by Director Shackleford include a Vacation Watch, Close Patrols, Elderly Watch, Home Safety Inspections, the Gun Safety program and more.
